Shoma

From Henshindex

Shoma Stomach (ショウマ・ストマック, Shōma Sutomakku, as seen in the show’s credits[1]) or Shoma Inoue (井上 ショウマ, Inoue Shōma)[2], is a human-Granute hybrid who is the protagonist of Kamen Rider Gavv. He transforms into the titular hero, Kamen Rider Gavv.

His first appearance and debut as Kamen Rider Gavv was in the movie Kamen Rider Gotchard: The Future Daybreak.

Personality[edit source]

Shoma is a cheerful young man who’s always willing to help others and give them a second chance, particularly other Granutes, whom Shoma will ask whether or not they wish to stop partaking in Dark Confections before finishing them off. Despite being unfamiliar with the planet Earth, he isn’t naïve, and he’s self-conscious about his monster identity. Even when he scares humans, he tries to assure them that everything will be okay.

History[edit source]

Early Life[edit source]

Shoma grew up with his mother in an unknown location away from Earth. She would often describe the snacks she ate on Earth to Shoma, much to his fascination.

His mother was killed when he was a young adult.[1]

Landing on Earth[edit source]

Shortly after the murder of his mother, Shoma flees the Granutes and fell to the planet Earth. He is found by a boy named Hajime, who gives him his first Earth snacks, allowing him to create Gochizos and transform into Kamen Rider Gavv. After seeing Hajime’s mother’s reaction to this form, Shoma decides to hide his monster identity from humans.[1]

Shoma sleeps on the streets and is briefly taken in by Sachika Amane before leaving her as well.[2]

Etymology[edit source]

“Shoma Stomach” could be a play on “show my stomach”, something which Shoma often does.

Inoue (井上) is a generic Japanese name which means “above a village”.

“Gavv” (ガヴ, Gavu) is derived from a Japanese word meaning “to bite” (ガブ, Gabu).
