A Strange Snack Kamen Rider!?

From Henshindex

'A Strange Snack Kamen Rider!?' (おカシな仮面ライダー!?, Okashina kamen raidā!?) is the first episode of Kamen Rider Gavv.

Synopsis[1][edit source]

Shoma, who came from another world, is rescued by a boy named Hajime where he toppled from hunger. Shoma enthusiastically eats the snacks Hajime gave him, but at the same time, Gochizos are born.

At that time, a freelance writer named Hanto was gathering information about monster sightings. While keeping Shoma sheltered in his own secret hideout, Hajime hurried home, but a weird man appeared in front of him.

The man changed into his Granute appearance and approached Hajime.

Shoma tried to save Hajime, but couldn’t make even a dent in the Granute. Suddenly, the Gochizos appeared in front of the suffering Shoma. He “set and ate” the Gochizos, and transfomed into Kamen Rider Gavv!

Plot[edit source]

Shoma flees from Stomach family Agents, avoiding attacks in a strange physics-defying space. He escapes by falling down into the planet Earth’s sky. He marvels at the Tokyo Tower and wonders if this was where his mother lived before falling unconscious.

A boy named Hajime finds Shoma washed up on a beach and takes him to his secret hideout. Shoma immediately falls in love with Hajime’s snacks, giving birth to his first Gochizo.

Meanwhile, freelance writer Hanto Karakida attempts to interview a woman about monster sightings, his mentor chides him, and a Granute in human disguise receives a Dark Candy from an Agent.

While out to get more food, Hajime is attacked by the Granute. He’s narrowly saved from capture by Shoma, who fights the Granute bare-handed until his Gochizos arrive to teach him how to transform into Kamen Rider Gavv. This transformation turns the tide of the battle in Shoma’s favor. Hajime’s mother arrives to take Hajime home, exclaiming that Shoma is a “monster”.

Although this troubles Shoma, he keeps fighting. The Granute escapes, so a VRCan Gochizo helps Shoma by transforming into a special vehicle for Shoma to chase them with. Shoma corners the monster at a (idr where it was but i know it would be in a liminal space compilation) and easily defeats them with a Kickin Gummy Gochizo.

When Hajime returns to his hideout, Shoma is gone and has left a letter to him. In the letter, Shoma explains that he should probably keep his identity as a monster a secret and that they have to part ways. Hajime cries and tears up the letter to destroy the “evidence” Shoma left behind.

Shoma asks a VRCan Gochizo to turn into a more Earth-esque bike and rides off into the distance. He’s later seen sleeping on the side of a street, where Sachika Amane finds him and tries to wake him up.

Trivia[edit source]

  • The episode’s title using “おカシ” (Okashi) is a pun on the Japanese word for “snack” (お菓子, Okashi) and an adjective meaning “strange” (おかしな, Okashi na) being spelled the same way.
